Saint Paul is a city of neighborhoods(17). Two special walking tours have been organized of these special historic districts in the West 7th/Fort Road Neighborhood. Each tour will give you an intimate look at the oldest neighborhood in Saint Paul.
West 7th is an urban success story which has reinvented itself but has been able to keep its historic look and cultural identity. Learn about the organizing efforts led by community people and businesses to save and improve this historic neighborhood. Our tour guide for both tours will be historian Dave Bredemus, who has lived or worked in the neighborhood his whole life and has been involved with many of the projects to improve the neighborhood over the last 50 years.
Brewery Neighborhood Walking Tour
This special neighborhood is the home of many German landmarks and breweries. Hear the story of the renaissance of the Schmidt Brewery. Learn how Germans and other ethnic groups, left their legacy in this neighborhood along the Mississippi River. Discover how the interesting cave system, and Cascade Creek, created business opportunities. Visit old farmsteads, horsebarns, beer gardens, saloons, railroad, architectural wonders, historic churches and mansions in this district. This area also has Minnesota’s oldest barber shop and bar plus a very old bowling alley which we plan on visiting.

Both tours will start at the West Seventh Community Center located at 265 Oneida St., St. Paul. Parking is available.
If the tour is full, please add your name to the waitist. We will contact you if a spot becomes available.
